A Beginner’s Guide To NEBOSH Course In Glasgow

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) is the UK leading independent examination board providing vocational qualifications in health and safety, and environmental management. Their courses are the national standard in the UK and are recognised internationally all over the globe. At Pivotal Scotland, we offer the NEBOSH National General Certificate course at our facility in Glasgow, with trainers at the top of their field and vast experience in applying a wide range of vocational training courses.

What is the structure of the course?

To earn this certificate, learners must undertake a minimum of 68 taught hours, and around 40 hours of private study and background reading is recommended by NEBOSH. At Pivotal Scotland, we fast-track learners in Glasgow to complete the course over a period of 10 days, which includes the final assessment. There are no entry requirements for the course, though it is important to have a good standard of the English language in order to follow the instructor and articulate the concepts you will learn throughout the syllabus. NEBOSH recommends an equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher as a minimum proficiency.

The qualification is presented in 2 units:

Management of Health and Safety (Unit NG1)

Risk Assessment (Unit NG2)

What will I learn?

The course is a foundation study of a broad range of health and safety issues in the workplace, emphasising the things that really matter. The following areas will be covered:

Effective management of health and safety

Identification and control of common workplace hazards

Measuring the success of implemented controls

Key legal requirements of UK legislation

Central to the qualification is the process of risk assessment. If you apply yourself to both the study and the workplace application elements of the course, you will be successful in the final assessment. You will then come away with the skills to confidently carry out risk assessments, develop and apply detailed action plans, effectively manage and mitigate workplace risks and nurture a culture of health and safety in the workplace.

As a foundation course, this NEBOSH qualification is excellent to promote a health and safety focus in managers, supervisors and any staff who need to consider health and safety management in their daily responsibilities.
